Fashionably Fit w/ Jawbone UP

Friday, October 30, 2015

Any of these thoughts sound familiar?
I need to eat better. I need to get back into shape. Why am I so tired? How many hours of sleep did I get last night? Why do I feel so sluggish? I'm sitting way too much during the day. I need to drink more water. etc. etc. etc.

We all want to improve the quality of our lives by taking better care of our bodies (and mind). But sometimes we don't know how or where to start. Well lucky for you, Jawbone has made it easy to integrate both wellness and achievement into your daily life with their new UP 2 and UP 3 fitness trackers! Not only is has the system behind UP been improved, but they’ve introduced new colors and materials into the mix, so you can set goals, track your progress, and elevate your personal style, all within a fashionably sleek band.

With the Jawbone UP app, you can set your health and fitness goals, and the Smart Coach will encourage you to drink more water, take more steps, and get more sleep to enable you to achieve your goals! As you can see above, I've left my "Move" goal at the recommended 10,000 steps, but I customized my "Sleep" goal by setting it for 7 hours instead of 8 because my body feels sluggish the next day if I sleep any more than 6-7 hours (I'm weird like that). Also, by tracking the trends in my steps and sleeping patterns, I'm able to see what days I've struggled with hitting my goals and find way to improve upon that!

I live a borderline sedentary life (I work from home so my office is my couch) so the Jawbone UP 2 has helped me remember to keep active. I set an "Idle Alert" reminder on it so that if I'm sedentary for an hour, it buzzes me (literally vibrates) to get up and walk around. I also set a reminder for myself to drink water every hour and to let me know when it's time to take my pill! My favorite alert feature about the Jawbone UP 2 though is the "Smart Alarm." You can set an alarm for when you want to wake up by, and because it tracks when you're in your Deep Sleep/Light Sleep phases, it'll wake you up when you're in a Light Sleep phase between 10-30 minutes before your desired alarm time. That way you'll wake up alert, rather than groggy. Trust me, this is coming from someone who is NOT a morning person, it works!

One of my favorite features of the new Jawbone UP 2 design is how sleek and subtle the band is. Sometimes fitness trackers are too bulky or stand out too much--making you feel like everyone can see that you're trying to track your health and fitness. I like that the band just blends right into any outfit, and looks like an accessory, rather than a device.

As a style blogger, I like it when my looks are put together and cohesive, so it's such a bonus that my Jawbone UP 2 is style-friendly and pretty much goes with every outfit I wear. I like sticking to neutrals for the fall season (blacks, whites, grey, olives, etc.) so the gunmetal grey/black look of my band compliments the vibe of my style (especially this outfit)! Yay! If you love pops of color though, the band also comes in a variety of different shades, like turquoise, violet+gold, and many more!

PS. It was VERY cold outside the day I shot these pics, hence why there are goosebumps on my arm!

I've already seen such a difference in the quality of my life thanks to the Jawbone UP 2! I'm sleeping better, I'm eating better, and I have lots of energy to actually go out and do things! I love that I can physically see and track my movements and activity, and then receive feedback on how to improve and change! It's crazy how something so minimal and small can have such a huge impact on how you live your life.

If you're looking for something that will help you kickstart your goals of living a healthier life, be sure to check out the Jawbone UP 2 and UP 3. Not only will you begin feeling good about your life and goals, but you'll look good while doing it! :)

If you have any questions about the Jawbone UP devices, let me know in the comments below! I'd love to share more about my experience with it!

Have a great Halloween weekend, friends!

Cheers.

Jawbone UP MOVE x Fitness

Wednesday, June 17, 2015

Thanks to Jawbone UP MOVE for sponsoring today's post!
All opinions and my love for this fitness tracker are my own. #Jawbone #SmartCoach

As most of you know, I work from home. Which means I live a VERY sedentary life. With the exception of my morning jog and taking Samson out a few times a day to do his business, my idea of being physical during the day is getting up from my couch and walking to the fridge. Then walking back. I'm pretty sure Samson is more active than me on a daily basis from all the pitter-pattering he does around the apartment.

I was already aware that I didn't live a very active lifestyle, but it wasn't until I wore the Jawbone UP MOVE that I realized just how lazy and stationary I really was during the day.

I've already spoken about the Jawbone UP MOVE on my blog before (see the post HERE) but I only highlighted the sleep tracking feature. Today I'm going to talk about my initial and overall experience with the activity tracking feature.

From the moment I got out of bed, I clipped my Jawbone UP MOVE onto my clothing. Their built-in accelerometer accurately counts your steps, no matter where you go or how you wear it. Before I went on my morning jog, I switched the tracker over to "Stopwatch" mode so it could focus solely on my running session. It timed exactly how long I ran for, the distance I ran, the steps I took, my pace, and how many calories I burned. I was pretty impressed with all the data it collected, just from the little chip I wore! (Scroll down a little further to see the data from my jogging session--don't judge on how slow my pace is! I'm a slow runner, haha)

I went on the with the rest of my day still wearing the tracker. Around 3pm I checked in on my progress using the UP app on my phone. I was pretty shocked to see that I was only at 40% of my 10,000 steps goal (the NIH recommends you take at least 10,000 steps per day in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle), especially since it was already more than halfway through the day! It was a pretty rude awakening of how inactive my lifestyle was and how much I needed to start changing it! For the rest of the day I would make myself get up every 15 minutes or so and literally power walk around my apartment. I know it sounds super silly (and trust me, I felt pretty silly), but just doing that alone helped me get more steps into my total and forced myself to be more active during the day!

LEFT: The data from my jogging session. I like to take my time running, okay? // RIGHT: My total steps for the day! We went on a long walk with Samson at the end of the day just so I would make the 100% hahaha. Also, the app told me that when I hit 10,263 steps, it was the equivalent of climbing the Eiffel Tower SIX times! So basically I spent my day in Paris, what whaaaat]

You can also set reminders to get up and move around during the day and the UP app has a Smart Coach that offers you tips and tricks every day on how to reach a healthier life.

People who have jobs that require them to move around most of the day don't really have to worry about whether or not they live an active lifestyle. It's those of us who have jobs that require us sitting down most of the day that need to be more aware of our activity. We don't realize how sedentary our lives are without actually seeing it with our own eyes. I would highly recommend the Jawbone UP MOVE to people who want to live a healthy lifestyle--it's great for both those who want to be more active during the day and those who want to maintain an already active lifestyle.

A really fun feature about the Jawbone UP MOVE is that you can can connect with your friends and family who are using the tracker as well! You can form teams to help each other reach your goals and even duel each other to see who can reach their step count goal first! When UP community members have three or more friends on their team, they move at least 10 extra miles a month. That’s a lot of calories burned.

The Jawbone UP MOVE tracker doesn't just count your steps and track your sleep--it gets you over the hump and moving on your path to a better you.
Give it a try!

Cheers.

Jawbone UP MOVE x Sleep

Tuesday, June 9, 2015

Thanks to Jawbone UP MOVE for sponsoring today's post!
All opinions and my love for this fitness tracker are my own. #Jawbone #SmartCoach

I am the worst at sleep.

Honestly, I'm just straight up bad at it. I suck at going to sleep. I suck at waking up from sleep. And I suck at staying asleep. If sleeping was a sport, I'd get picked last in the schoolyard.

I've tried all the tips and tricks--ZzzQuil, Sleepytime Tea, reading a book instead of playing on my iPad, aromatherapy, etc. Some of them have helped me fall asleep faster, but I still either wake up in the middle of the night and/or have trouble waking up in the morning. A big problem is that I've never been able to track my sleeping so I can monitor my patterns. I feel like if I were able to see how I sleep, I can fix how I sleep.

Well, my problem is officially solved thanks to Jawbone UP MOVE!

Jawbone UP MOVE is an activity tracker that tracks your movement, exercise, sleep, food intake, and health progress. It helps you get fit, lose weight and have fun doing it! Jawbone UP MOVE comes in a bunch of fun colors that you can mix and match with clips and straps--I chose to go all purple, obviously. The UP app you download to monitor your data even comes with a Smart Coach to guide and motivate you throughout your journey. The UP MOVE tracker doesn't just count your steps and track your sleep--it gets you over the hump and moving on your path to a better you!

One of my favorite features on the Jawbone UP MOVE is of course, the sleep tracker. It easily tracks your hours of sleep and better yet, quality of sleep. Your quality of sleep is tracked with a built-in accelerometer, which detects light, sound and wake phases of sleep. You simply strap on your UP MOVE tracker, put it into Sleep Mode, and snooze away! Over time, the Smart Coach learns your sleep habits and then gives you personalized suggestions to help you get the most out of your sleep so you wake up feeling bright-eyed and bushy-tailed!

Below is a screenshot of one of my sleep logs in the UP app! It's so cool how you can actually see what time I fell asleep, the times I woke up during the night, and when I was in my sound sleep/light sleep phases. As expected, I woke up multiple times during the night and spent more time in light sleep than sound sleep--causing me to feel extremely tired when I woke up in the morning, even though I got more than 7 hours of sleep. Over time I've gotten tips and tricks from my Smart Coach on how to improve my quality of sleep, like having a consistent bedtime--which I struggle with a ton.

Fun Fact: According to the NIH, getting 7–8 hours of sleep per night protects your mental health, physical health, quality of life, and helps your brain work properly!

I'm so excited to continue using my Jawbone UP MOVE! I've already noticed a huge difference in my sleeping habits and can't wait to see the long-term benefits it brings! I know Samson definitely approves of it since it's allowing him to have healthy sleeping habits too--he used to stay up late/sleep in with me, making him real lazy. ;)

Next Wednesday I'll be highlighting the specific activity tracker on the UP MOVE and how it has helped me with my fitness goals, so be sure to tune back in for that!

Have a great Tuesday, friends!

Cheers.

Get Creative w/ HP Sprout

Wednesday, May 20, 2015

Thanks to HP Sprout for sponsoring today's post!
All opinions and my love for this device are my own. #sproutbyHP #CIY

I'm so excited to introduce to you an amazing piece of technology I've been loving lately: the HP Sprout! Okay, imagine if the computer system on Hawaii Five-0 and Iron Man had a baby: it would look something like this beauty. The HP Sprout's revolutionary all-touch user interface lets you control your content directly with your hands on either the 23" Full HD touchscreen or the projected display on the 20-point capacitive Touch Mat. My favorite feature is the Illuminator (which is the thing floating above the computer screen) that houses the Intel RealSense 3D camera and projection engine, which allow you to scan 2D or 3D objects and instantly display them on the Touch Mat. Yes, it scans AND projects, what whattt?! This computer is literally a creative junkie's dream because there are endless possibilities with what you can create!

Below is a little of what the HP Sprout is capable of.

You can literally put ANYTHING on this mat (2D or 3D) to be scanned and captured.
I'm capturing this awesome coaster from Peace of Paradise, a company owned by my friend Keri.
The image then gets stored in your workspace, that holds all your projects and captures.
When you're ready to create, you can select things you've captured on the mat and literally swipe them back down onto the mat.
Adjust the size, crop the edges, make duplicates, do whatever your heart desires!
I added the image of my coaster to a little "California Dreamin" board I put together. I'm craving some Cali sunshine right about now with all this crazy Utah weather going on.

The HP Sprout blends the physical and digital world and allows you to be as creative as you want.
I'm excited about all the upcoming projects I'll be able to do on this device! I'll be sharing a recent project with you all soon so be sure to tune back in for that!

Hope you all have an amazing Wednesday!

Cheers.

4 Ways to Spring Inspired by the HP x360

Wednesday, February 11, 2015

Thanks to HP & Meghan Trainor for sponsoring today's post!
All opinions and my love for this laptop are my own. #BendTheRules

Happy Hump Day!
We are halfway through the week, friends. We can do this! :)

To all my Utah peeps: How AMAZING has this weather been lately? Looks like the groundhog had it wrong when he predicted the extra weeks of Winter. I was actually sweating taking Samson on a walk the other day! I'm in love with it.

Speaking of warm weather, with Spring basically already upon us, I wanted to share with you my 4 favorite ways to Spring via fashion! First, I'm all about them pastels, especially pastel dresses. The colors in that scheme are so soooo pretty and always scream Spring to me! Next, floral print. Spring is when the flowers bloom again so why not wear them on your clothes? ;) Third is floppy hats. With sunnier days ahead of us I need something cute and functional to keep those UV rays off my face! The floppy hat I'm wearing today is from Gypsy Threads and it's darling. And last but certainly not least, flower crowns!!! I've been waiting a good two seasons to finally start wearing these babies again and I'm so excited that the moment is almost here! My favorite flower crown fairy, Miss Stevi Marie, made this one for me last season and it's still my favorite one I own.

So what inspired choosing the number 4 to show off my Spring favorites?
Believe it or not, the HP Pavilion x360 laptop did!

This nifty little device is all about the number 4.
Mainly because it has 4 modes of functionality!

Laptop mode is best used for doing work on.
like blogging and emailing
Tablet mode is for when you're on-the-go.
like video-chatting your mom while cleaning the house
Tent mode is fun for playing games--either for yourself or your kiddies.
like angry birds or minion rush
Stand mode is convenient when watching clips, movies, and tv shows.
like a romantic RomCom on V-day

The HP is all about "bending the rules" by creating exciting and surprising products for their customers! The HP x360 literally "bends the rules" with its ability to bend 360 degrees and adapt to whatever task you're using the device to complete! We use our laptops for everything these days and HP wants to make those experiences more enjoyable with complete customization. I love the idea of being able to customize your laptop to fit your comfort! Some of the HP x360s features include a soft-touch coating on the screen that gives you a comfortable hold without leaving fingerprints, an HP TrueVision HD Webcam that captures all the details with vibrant clarity, even in low light, and built-in BeatsAudio and dual speakers that gives you the best-sounding richest audio no matter what mode you're using.

EXCITING NEWS!
HP is partnering up and currently on tour with one of my favorite singers, Meghan Trainor, to capture all the behind-the-scenes magic that's happening! From Vancouver to Nashville, they’ll have a camera crew and some of their favorite Meghan Trainor fans from her Lips Are Movin’ video to help bring the tour to life—check it out HERE!

The tour will come to life in two parts:
--“All About That Tour:” a behind-the-scenes look at key elements of Meghan’s tour—from hair & makeup to choreography.
--“Fan Generated Documentary:” They’re tapping Viners, YouTubers, and Instgrammers to capture footage of each Meghan Trainor tour stop and encourage their fans to share too! Then they’re stitching it all together to create a tour documentary featuring fan footage.

You can follow along with the tour by watching Behind The Scenes episodes on the HP Meghan Trainor's That Bass Tour page or by following @HP for updates on social media!

I'm bending the rules by using my HP x360 in Stand Mode to binge watch all my favorite TV shows.

How do you #BendTheRules?

Cheers.

#WorkFromHappyPlace w/ HP + Intel

Monday, December 22, 2014

Thanks to HP & Intel for sponsoring today's post!
All opinions and my love for this tablet are my own. #WorkFromHappyPlace

A "peachy" starfish from a popular Disney movie once recited the words, "Find a happy place, find a happy place, find a happy place!" She said these words when she found herself in an unpleasant situation and needed to recall a happy place in her head to get her through it.

Everyone has a happy place in their life that is near and dear to their heart. A place they recall or go to whenever life gets rough and they need to find some peace of mind. These happy places could range anywhere from a secluded beach to a isolated mountain top to a certain retail store in the mall.
Call me a nerd, dork, or whatever, but my happy place happens to be a library. (:

My happy place is a building full of silence and books because it's extremely nostalgic for me. When I was a kid, my mom would take us to the library every week to read and rent all the books we wanted. Sometimes I would spend hours sitting on the floor reading book after book. I remember trying to carry as many books as my tiny arms could handle to the checkout counter. Going to the library was a huge part of my childhood, so it's pretty ironic that I ended up living right next to the city library in Provo!

I am blessed to have a job that allows me to work from home, but anyone who shares the same type of lifestyle understands when I say that there's a certain point you reach where you can't handle being inside the house any longer. Whenever I am feeling cooped up and need a change of scenery, I head on over next door to the library to get my work done. I'm not a huge fan of lugging my computer to places so when I need to be mobile, I bring my HP Stream with Intel Inside® to help me get my work done!

The HP Stream is a new kind of tablet with Intel Inside®. I have the 7" tablet and the convenient size allows me to stash it in my purse (rather than needing a large bag). It has a built-in Intel Inside® processor which makes for lightning fast performance--because nobody likes a laggy device, right? The tablet comes with a couple of freebies: FREE 1TB cloud storage for a year and FREE Office 365 for a year. Meaning you have Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Access, AND tons and tons of storage right at your fingertips. Does your happy place have no Wi-Fi access? No problem! HP & Intel have a 8" tablet option that comes with FREE 4G data right out of the box!

Now with the HP Stream with Intel Inside®, your happy places are unlimited!
Work from a cafe, park, hair salon, or even the beach!
Wherever your happy place is, bring your happy tablet with you.

Where is your happy place?
#WorkFromHappyPlace

Cheers.
