The secret to a messy bun is...

Skirt: c/o Gypsy Threads
Button-Up: Gap [similar]
Booties: Forever 21 [similar]
Bag: LuLu*s [similar]
Watch: c/o Arvo
Necklace: Wet Seal [similar]

... yet to be found.
For me at least.

Has anyone ever purposely made a messy bun?

Every time I try to make a messy bun, it's either too polished or too messy (like in my pictures today, it's a little too polished--in my opinion at least).
And what's even more annoying?
I always end up with the perfect messy bun when I'm not even trying.

Like seriously,
at night when I'm washing my face and I throw up my hair in five seconds just to merely get it out of my face...
BAM.
The perfect messy bun.

But guess what folks, it's 12:07 AM and nobody cares if I look cute.

Ughhhhhh.

So favor: Anyone know a good tutorial for a messy bun that doesn't involve teasing my hair like crazy and a ton of hairspray? A link to it in the comments below would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great MLKJ holiday today!
We are hoping to go skiing/snowboarding today, so we'll see how that goes!

Don't forget, The Bachelor is tonight.
Go Andi and Renee!

Cheers.

  1. Such a cute bun!

  2. I've seen so many tutorials, but they all involve teasing the crap out of your hair! Ughk no body wants to do that! I've done the messy bun ONCE without meaning to while not caring what was going on while i was baking like a mad woman one day.. I have yet to remember what I did. :(

And sorry, I can't help you in the bun department.
I have a pixie cut, aha.
Plus, when I have long hair, it's really fine….
So there's like nothing to play with *sigh*

  6. The only kind of messy buns I do involve yeast and flour. My hair is too sad and wimpy to do a bun. Thanks so much for sharing your fun look with Manic Monday!

  8. I absolutely love how you wore that skirt. The leather look isn't something I typically think of as professional, but the blouse and the length of the skirt is so perfect!

  12. I like to flip my head upside gather my hair into something resembling a ponytail (but don't tie it). I then twist my hair, flip everything back up, and put it into a bun. Secure with an elastic or two.

  16. I love the way you wore your necklace...I have been struggling with a necklace and a collared/button up shirt. So thanks! Good luck on your quest for a messy bun. My favorite tutorial is the one my friend Merrick did over here ... http://www.merricksart.com/2014/01/messy-top-knot-tutorial.html

  21. I think this bun is perfectly messy, not too polished at all! I wish I had some genius advice, but unfortunately *my* perfect bun consists of teasing like crazy and a bunch of hairspray! I like my buns to have their own shadow! haha :)
But, let's talk about that skirt, because I almost didn't notice your bun because I couldn't peel my eyes away from that skirt! It looks so fab on you!!
Thanks for sharing this with manic monday!!
